911 Memorial
As you enter Covel Gardens Landfill and pass the recreation area, you will see a flagpole flying the Stars and Stripes flanked by two trees with a large stone in between. This is the site's 911 Memorial that was dedicated by the employees who work at the landfill. Step closer and you can read the inscription on the plaque:

ONE YEAR AGO TODAY.

WE PLANT THE RED OAK TREES.
THE 5-SIDED SANDSTONE BOULDER
IS PLACED BETWEEN THE TREES TO REPRESENT
THE PENTAGON IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
THE LAWN AREA IN WHICH THE
TREES AND BOULDER RESIDE SYMBOLIZES
THE OPEN FIELD IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA
WHERE UNITED FLIGHT #93 CAME TO REST.
ABOVE ALL RISES
THE AMERICAN FLAG
WHICH STANDS PROUDLY IN REPRESENTATION
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA -
THE GREATEST NATION IN THE WORLD.
